There’s nothing quite like game day. I love the sense of community that you feel when you attend a sporting event. Typically I have to fly to San Francisco to catch my favorite team – Go Giants! – to feel that rush. But after decades of living in Las Vegas, we’re finally going to have our first professional sports team – the Vegas Golden Knights of the NHL—playing at T-Mobile Arena. Season tickets secured, I now have to work out my game wardrobe and game-day rituals. The sense of anticipation is palpable. So if you’re looking for me, and it’s a home-game night, you know where I’ll be.

I’m not an alarmist but I do spend quite a bit of time wondering how I’d do in a zombie apocalypse. Like, a lot. So when Zero Latency’s Zombie Survival VR experience debuted inside LEVEL UP at MGM Grand I was there. Players roam untethered through the arena and are outfitted with goggles, perfectly weighted weapons and headsets so they can stay in contact with their team. If you’re not as fascinated with the threat of zombies as I am, there are two other games – one with rogue robots and the other whimsical and exotic world’s in which you have to solve physics problems to advance. So. Much. Fun.

Lions and tigers and dolphins, oh my! If you’re looking for an experience as educational as it is fun, you have to check out Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage. Get an up-close look at white tigers, lions, leopards and bottlenose dolphins all while learning about their species, natural habitat, care and training. My favorite part was seeing the newest addition to the habitat – the baby dolphin, Coco! I also enjoyed learning about the habitat’s conservation efforts and got schooled on all things environmental at the Sustainability Discovery Center.

One of the highlights of living in Las Vegas during the holiday season – besides the amazing weather – is being able to visit Bellagio and wander through the stunning displays at the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. And there is no better seat in the house to take in the beauty than the airy Café Bellagio. Located in the far corner of the Conservatory, the café also overlooks the resort’s gorgeous pool complex giving you spectacular views no matter where you turn. Open early and closed late, it’s the perfect place for a nosh any time of day. I’m a breakfast-for-dinner gal, so the all-day breakfast menu is my go-to. Make sure to end – or start if that’s your thing – your day with a Bellagio Cocktail.

I am a proud Las Vegas native who loves everything about this city, especially the weather (yes, even those hot summers). But the drawback to all the sunshine? No snow days, sledding or ice skating with friends; all of which I’d longed for growing up in the desert. Now my childhood dreams have come true. This season The Park will bring to life a storybook version of the quintessential holiday experience: a community gathering place chock full of seasonal decor, a giant Christmas tree complete with a ceremonial tree lighting, ice skating on Toshiba Plaza and, of course, Santa. I can’t wait to lace up my skates and glide around the whimsical landscape. Another dream realized…assuming, of course, I’m actually gliding, not clinging to the side as my feet flail underneath me.
