At MGM Resorts International, we are guided by the simple yet powerful belief that companies have a responsibility to their communities. An unequivocal commitment to promoting equality, giving and volunteering and creating a more environmentally sustainable future guides us each and every day.
We are extremely proud of our social impact and sustainability platform, “Focused on What Matters: Embracing Humanity and Protecting the Planet.” Three strategic pillars form the cornerstone of this platform: fostering diversity and inclusion, investing in our communities and protecting the planet. Under each pillar we have set ambitious 2025 goals, each of which is aligned to one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Our important work in these areas has been governed for over a decade by a dedicated Board Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability committee. Our CEO and Executive Leaders are directly involved in developing strategy and championing goals, and implementation of programs is managed by a central team of subject matter experts in social impact and sustainability who work with functional and property leaders across the company. This central team also coordinates with internal leaders to understand, refine and communicate a broad array of related program areas such as responsible gaming, compliance, human rights, anti-human trafficking, ethics, data privacy and beyond.
While in the past and present we frame our work in these areas as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we know there is an emerging shift to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). In our view, these ideas are similar in concept but differ in emphasis: whereas CSR emphasizes story, ESG emphasizes data. As one of the world’s leading entertainment companies, we think the future of communications in these areas is data-driven storytelling. We are committed to CSR as the stories on this website express. And are committed to ESG as our deep datasets reveal.
We know that investors are increasingly making investment decisions based on ESG data, and as such, recognize that transparency is paramount. We are committed to transparently informing our investors and other important stakeholders of our policies, programs and performance. Relatedly, we have dramatically expanded our disclosures in directional alignment with prevailing third party ESG frameworks such as CDP, GRI, SASB and others. And while it is not recognition that drives our efforts, we are honored by a range of awards that acknowledge our work to improve our workforce, our community and the planet.
Every MGM Resorts employee brings unique talent to our company. Indeed, such diversity is what makes us special. Yet we share one common characteristic: a passion for collaboration that in turn invigorates our commitment to focus on what matters. We are extremely proud of the work we’ve done and committed to the work we have yet to do today, tomorrow and beyond.
The MGM Resorts Social Impact & Sustainability Center of Excellence stewards the company’s commitment: Focus on What Matters: Embracing Humanity & Protecting the Planet. This team serves as the bridge between external stakeholders and internal entities and helps drive accountability for our social impact and sustainability goals.
The essential purpose of this team is to drive the direction of our company’s social impact and environmental sustainability work, informed by input from our Board CSR & Sustainability committee. This team takes a collaborative approach to engaging internal and external stakeholders in setting strategy and prioritizing focus areas. Then the central team helps initiate new programs, integrates them into core functions so they become ‘business as usual’, and coordinates the communication of our programs and performance to enhance the company’s reputation ratings across major ESG frameworks.
