Resort Environmental Profiles

MGM Resorts’ environmental sustainability efforts formalized when we pursued LEED for New Construction at CityCenter (including ARIA and Vdara) in 2007. Since then, our focus on greening our company reaches far beyond the Design & Development phases. Nearly all of our resorts have achieved one or more green operations certifications, including Green Key and Green Globes for Existing Buildings. Additionally, each property has a unique set of environmental features, specifications and programs that are highlighted in their respective property environmental profile.

ARIA Campus

The development of the ARIA Campus was a key milestone for environmental sustainability at MGM Resorts. The ARIA Campus reflects a vision of the future that combines quality of life with a commitment to sustainable design. It is one of the world's largest environmentally sustainable urban communities and is committed to maintaining elevated green standards today, tomorrow and beyond.

  • A 8.2-megawatt Combined Heat & Power central plant onsite, efficiently generating 30% of the resort’s electricity needs while using waste heat to warm water

Bellagio

In addition to its renowned hospitality offerings and entertainment experiences, Bellagio is recognized for its environmental features and sustainable hotel operations including robust environmental programs in the areas of energy, water and materials and waste.

MGM Grand Las Vegas

With the world's largest portfolio of StayWell® guest rooms and meeting rooms, the iconic MGM Grand Las Vegas serves as an ambassador for MGM Resorts as a brand and as a wellness retreat on the Las Vegas Strip.

Park MGM

The reimagined Park MGM brings together calming tones, nature connectedness and efficient building design to create a holistic, sustainable experience for guests.

Mandalay Bay

With approximately 4,700 rooms (including Four Seasons and Delano hotels) and millions of square feet of convention space, Mandalay Bay is guided by a robust environmental sustainability strategy and industry-leading sustainability programs.

The Signature at MGM Grand

The Signature at MGM Grand is an environmentally efficient property steps from the Las Vegas Strip. The studio-style accommodations give guests greater control over their travel behavior.

New York-New York

Located across from the iconic MGM Grand and beside The Park – an immersive nature experience on the Las Vegas Strip – New York-New York is a premier hospitality and entertainment venue and has seen strong utility savings and waste reduction as part of portfolio-wide initiatives.

  • The onsite roller coaster has a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) that helps significantly reduce energy consumption.

Excalibur

Excalibur offers everything you’d expect from an MGM Resorts integrated resort and casino, including robust environmental programs for more efficient and less impactful operations. The resort’s convenient location on the Las Vegas Strip minimizes the need for transportation.

  • Animal waste from horses in the Tournament of Kings show gets composted.
  • Replaced 27,000 square feet of grass with synthetic turf and desert landscaping, saving 1.7 million gallons of water consumption annually.

Luxor

The Luxor Las Vegas is a pyramid-shaped hotel with iconic light that can be seen from space. Not only is Luxor’s 30-story pyramid one of the most recognizable buildings in Las Vegas, but it is also noteworthy for its environmental practices.

  • Replaced more than 40,000 square feet of grass with synthetic turf and desert landscaping, saving more than 1.5 million gallons of water annually.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Highlights:

  • Recognized by NV Energy as a Lifetime Leader in Sustainability
  • Replaced more than 28,000 fluorescent lightbulbs with LED lightbulbs around the resort
  • Partners with Rock and Wrap It Up and the Global Soap Project to repurpose amenities back into the community. 

Beau Rivage

Located on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino offers guests royal accommodations revolving around pleasure, comfort and environmental stewardship.

Highlights:

  • Food and Beverage teams serve “dock to dish” daily by serving fresh, locally caught crab, shrimp and fish from the Gulf of Mexico.

MGM Grand Detroit

MGM Grand Detroit is one of three casino resorts in Detroit and benefits from portfolio-wide planning for environmental sustainability.

  • Offers 30 onsite electric vehicle charging stations for guests and employees.

MGM National Harbor

MGM National Harbor is a 3 million square foot luxury resort in Maryland with an array of environmental innovations. From a roof that captures rainwater for landscape irrigation, to extensive use of glass to deliver natural light into the building, green design elements are visibly and elegantly infused into the core architectural design of the destination.

  • LEED Gold Certification for Building Design & Construction
  •  Has one of the D.C. area’s largest natural gas-fired combined heat and power plants onsite, reducing the resort’s carbon footprint
  •  700,000-gallon water cistern collects and stores rainwater for property use, reducing reliance on municipal water systems
  •  Healthy building materials used throughout to support wellness of guests and employees
  •  Energy and water efficient fixtures are standard

MGM Springfield

MGM Springfield, located in Massachusetts, was designed to revive the city's downtown core while preserving its historic architectural character. The strong focus on historic preservation includes the retention of iconic structures, reusing exterior facades and replicating historic design elements. In addition to its focus on historic preservation, the project is pursuing LEED Gold certification.

MGM Cotai

MGM COTAI opened in January 2018 as the first privately developed building in Macau to receive the Chino Green Building (Macau) Design Label and the only resort to achieve the highest award. During construction, we implemented a range of smart and sustainable design across six key areas: land, energy, water, building materials, indoor environmental quality and operations and management.

  • Attained the ISO 50001:2018 certification for an effective energy management system and recipient of the ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System Certification
  • Features The Spectacle, the world’s largest indoor garden with more than 100,000 plants and 2,000 species
  • Smart building management monitoring system with advanced electricity, water and natural gas controls
  • 100% LED lighting
  • All faucets, shower heads and toilets maximize water efficiency by using low flow technology
  • Onsite food composter converts food waste into compost

MGM Macau

Great moments are crafted at MGM MACAU through world class artistry, wellness experiences, signature food and beverage and environmental practices designed by a regional sustainability team.

  • Attained the ISO 50001:2018 certification for an effective energy management system
  • Won Gold Award in the “2019 Macao Green Hotel Award”, organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau
