Energy and Carbon
We are committed to the pursuit of renewable energy. By investing in renewables, we lower long-term energy costs and mitigate the risk of increased pricing.
Renewable Energy
MGM Resorts has a goal to source 100% renewable energy domestically by 2030. The MGM Resorts Mega Solar Array is the hospitality industry’s largest directly sourced renewable electricity project worldwide. With 323,000 panels covering 640 acres, it can power up to 90% of Las Vegas daytime energy needs. In September 2024, we announced a 25-year power purchase agreement with Escape Solar LLC that will more than double access to clean solar electricity. The facility’s battery storage will enable the extension of renewable power provided into the late afternoon and early evening hours to include uses such as exterior property lighting. Additionally, one of America’s largest contiguous rooftop solar arrays is atop the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Energy Efficient Design & Development
At MGM Resorts, we recognize the value of making environmentally sustainable business decisions during design and development. Between 2009 and 2019, we constructed more than 20 million square feet of new developments certified to LEED Gold or Platinum levels. Each property built to this standard incorporated advanced design and equipment choices to reduce long-term energy demand.
Energy Efficient Operations
MGM Resorts prioritizes energy efficiency across heating, cooling and lighting through a culture of innovation in energy management. With more than 92 million square feet of buildings under management, advanced building controls are essential to enhancing guest comfort while reducing energy use. Other efficiency measures include installing over 1,000 variable speed drives on fans, pumps and compressors, as well as completing one of the nation’s largest lighting retrofit projects—replacing 1.4 million fixtures with LEDs. MGM Resorts is a proud member of the U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings Challenge, a coalition committed to reducing energy use by at least 20%. In 2024, we were recognized for achieving energy savings goals as a partner in the Better Buildings Challenge.

Science Based Targets
MGM Resorts strives to lead the hospitality industry with transparency and accountability. Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), the leading organization for third party guidance and independent validation of climate targets, approved our targets as science-based and in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Approved Scope 1 and 2 emissions targets were validated as being in line with the 1.5 °C pathway, currently the organization’s most ambitious designation.
