FAQ
FREEPLAY is the exclusive loyalty currency used at all MGM Resorts destinations that rewards players with free slot or video lottery terminal (VLT) play on their MGM Rewards card for use in participating slot or VLT machines.
FREEPLAY can be received two ways:
1. From MGM Resort offers:
- Amount varies by location
- Based on eligibility & gaming activity
2. By converting SLOT DOLLARS® at slot or VLT machines:
- 1 SLOT DOLLAR® = 1 penny FREEPLAY
How to redeem in Las Vegas1:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine, wait for the welcome message & press “YES”.
- When “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN, press “YES” on the keypad located on the front of the machine & “2” to access FREEPLAY.
- Your available FREEPLAY balance will display.
- Activate your FREEPLAY by inserting a ticket, bill or coin & begin playing.
1 Las Vegas ONLY
- Automatically loaded onto your MGM Rewards account upon check-in on the first trip booked under any promotion.
- May only be redeemed on first trip booked.
- Valid for fourteen (14) days from the date of being automatically loaded.
- Only available once per offer across all MGM Rewards destinations in Las Vegas.
How to redeem at Beau Rivage:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine, wait for the welcome message & press “MENU”.
- Select “FREEPLAY” & when “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN, press “ACCEPT”.
- Your available FREEPLAY balance will display.
- Activate your FREEPLAY by inserting a ticket or bill & begin playing2.
2 After the game is played, the machine’s credit money will increase by the number of credits bet, and your FREEPLAY balance will decrease by the same amount. The process of play and replenish will continue while your card remains inserted, until your FREEPLAY balance is zero or you remove your card from the machine.
How to redeem at Borgata:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine & press the “MGM Rewards” icon on the right.
- When “PIN” appears in the display, enter your four-digit PIN & press “ENTER” on the keypad located in the touch screen.
- Press “FREEPLAY” icon on the right when amount displays on screen.
- Another “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN, press “ENTER” on the keypad.
- Your available FREEPLAY balance will display to begin playing.
How to redeem at MGM Grand Detroit:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot machine3.
- When the welcome message comes up, press “MENU”.
- Press “FREEPLAY”, enter your four-digit PIN & press “ENTER”.
- Select “ACCEPT” to activate FREEPLAY which will show as “ACTIVATED” on screen.
- Insert desired bet (cash or ticket) & PLAY!

How to redeem at MGM National Harbor:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine, wait for the welcome message.
- Depending on the machine, press “ACTIVATE” or “2” on the screen.
- When “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN & then press “ENTER” on the keypad located on the front of the machine.
- Your available FREEPLAY balance will display and turn green.
- Activate your FREEPLAY by inserting a ticket, bill or coin & begin playing4.
4 After the game is played, the machine’s credit money will increase by the number of credits bet, and your FREEPLAY balance will decrease by the same amount. - When the MGM Rewards account screen comes up, press "ACTIVATE" in the FREEPLAY section.
- On the next screen, enter your four-digit PIN & press "ENTER"
- Your FREEPLAY will change to green once activated.
- Insert desired bet (cash or ticket) & PLAY!
How to redeem at MGM Northfield Park:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a VLT machine.
- When the MGM Rewards account screen comes up, press “ACTIVATE” in the FREEPLAY section.
- On the next screen, enter your four-digit PIN & press “ENTER”.
- Your FREEPLAY will change to green once activated.
- Insert desired bet (cash or ticket) & PLAY!
How to redeem at Empire City Casino:
- Swipe your MGM Rewards card at any MGM Rewards kiosk5.
- Enter your four-digit PIN & select the PROMOTION menu on the left side of the screen.
- Select the Icon of the Promotion or Offer to redeem.
- Collect your FREEPLAY ticket to be used on any participating slot machine.
- Enrollment kiosks do not issue FREEPLAY. Be sure to use an MGM Rewards kiosk.
Continue utilizing your card to enjoy all the benefits of your MGM Rewards membership.
- Valid dates listed on offer or printed voucher.
- If converted from SLOT DOLLARS®, expiration is 18 months after conversion date.
- Gaming restriction patrons prohibited.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be an MGM Rewards member to redeem & use.
- Subject to redemption & use restrictions stated in offer and/or otherwise (e.g., expiration date, geographic limitations, etc.).
- Cannot be combined with other offers.
- Cannot be redeemed or exchanged for cash.
- Valid only for one-time use by offer recipient (unless otherwise stated in presented offer).

SLOT DOLLARS® can be received two ways:
- While playing slot machines or video lottery terminals (VLTs)
- Through spend on your MGM Rewards Mastercard®.

- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine, wait for the welcome message & press “YES”.
- When “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN, press “YES” on the keypad located on the front of the machine & “1” to access SLOT DOLLARS®.
- Select the amount of SLOT DOLLARS® to redeem for FREEPLAY1.
- Activate your FREEPLAY by inserting a ticket, bill or coin & begin playing.

How to redeem at Borgata:

- When “PIN” appears in the display, enter your four-digit PIN & press “ENTER” on the keypad located in the touch screen.
- SLOT DOLLARS® amount will display on screen, press “SLOT DOLLAR®” icon on the right.
- Another “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN, press “ENTER” on the keypad.
- Select the amount of SLOT DOLLARS® to redeem for FREEPLAY.
- Press “ENTER” to confirm the amount of SLOT DOLLARS® to redeem for FREEPLAY or cancel.
How to redeem in MGM National Harbor:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine, wait for the welcome message.
- Tap “Convert” or press “1” for POINTPlay® depending on the machine you are using.
- When “PIN” appears on the display, enter your four-digit PIN & then press “ENTER” on the keypad located on the front of the machine.
- Based on the available SLOT DOLLARS® in your account, select the amount to redeem for FREEPLAY and press “ENTER” (e.g., $5-$100 or “Other amount”)
- Activate your SLOT DOLLARS® by inserting a ticket, bill or coin & begin playing2.

- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a Slot Machine.
- When the MGM Rewards account screen comes up, press "CONVERT" in the SLOT DOLLARS® section.
- On the next screen, enter your four-digit PIN & press ENTER.
- Select available SLOT DOLLAR® amount you would like to convert (minimum of $5.00 SLOT DOLLARS®, maximum of $500.00)
- Press "ENTER" and PLAY!
How to redeem at MGM Grand Detroit:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a slot or video machine, wait for the welcome message.
- Once your available SLOT DOLLARS® amount appears, press “Menu”, then “SLOT DOLLARS®”
- On the next screen, enter your four-digit PIN & press “ENTER”.
- Based on the available SLOT DOLLARS® in your account, select the amount to redeem for FREEPLAY and press “ENTER” (e.g., $5-$50 or “Other amount”)
- Select “ACCEPT” to confirm amount.
- You will receive a message that FREEPLAY has been activated.
- Insert a minimum of $1 (cash or ticket) and PLAY!
How to redeem at MGM Northfield Park:
- Insert your MGM Rewards card into a VLT machine & press VLT DOLLARS®3 located on the right of the screen.
- On the next screen, enter your four-digit PIN & press “ENTER”.
- Based on the available VLT DOLLARS® in your account, select the amount to redeem for FREEPLAY and press “ENTER” (e.g., $5-$50 or “Other amount”)
- Select “ACCEPT” to confirm amount & “ACCEPT” to finalize.
- Successful FREEPLAY redemption will show as “ACTIVE” on your screen.
- Insert desired bet (cash or ticket) and PLAY!

How to redeem at Empire City Casino:
- Swipe your MGM Rewards card at any MGM Rewards Promotions kiosk.
- Enter your four-digit PIN & select the PROMOTION menu on the left side of the screen.
- From the Promotions screen, select “SLOT DOLLARS® for FREEPLAY®”
- Based on the available SLOT DOLLARS® in your account, certain prizes may not be available to redeem.
- Select the amount of SLOT DOLLARS® you would like to redeem for FREEPLAY and click “Submit”, then “Confirm”. (e.g., $10-$100)
- SLOT DOLLARS® will be deducted immediately from your account and a voucher will print out.
- Collect your FREEPLAY voucher and PLAY!
Continue utilizing your card to enjoy all the benefits of your MGM Rewards membership.
- Sapphire members: Expires after six (6) months of inactivity
- Pearl and above: Not subject to expiration for no activity
