While it may not have always been the case, today is the best time to bring the family on a vacation to Las Vegas. There’s all sorts of things kids can do! Today in Las Vegas the family can do all sorts of fun things from barreling down on a roller coaster at high speed or communing with sea creatures in a tranquil lagoon.Your children's eyes will be wide with wonder at the experiences found here.
In recent years, new shows and attractions have joined the list of tried-and-true favorites on the Strip. To help make your dreams memorable we've rounded up the five best things to do with kids in Las Vegas.
1. Make friends with dolphins at The Mirage's Dolphin Habitat.
Did you know there’s a full aquarium out here in the desert? In true Las Vegas style, MGM Resorts has not one – but two – aquariums on the Strip. Nothing excites kids more than getting up close and personal with unusual animals, and the trainers at Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat have the skills to make that experience safe, easy and most importantly, fun. The family can watch bottlenose dolphins frolic and feed in the outdoor lagoon, then venture into the garden beyond to see white lions, tigers, and leopards - oh my! Book ahead for a special “Painting With the Dolphins” experience, where your child can co-create a work of art with one of their new flippered friends.
For more deep-sea adventure, stop by The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, where a walk through an underwater tunnel will have your family literally surrounded by thousands of species, from graceful sea turtles to delicate jellyfish—and of course, the almighty shark. Children will love petting stingrays and horseshoe crabs in the touch pool.
2. Run away to the circus at the Adventuredome at Circus Circus.
It's no wonder the Adventuredome at Circus Circus is one of the Strip's longest running family-friendly attractions. From a careening pirate ship to a double-corkscrew roller coaster, there are rides for every taste and age packed into the five-acre indoor amusement park. Smaller tykes can take a ride on a ferris wheel or soar over the action in a replica 1920s plane, while daredevils will want to try El Loco, a heart-pounding coaster with a 1.5 vertical-G drop. When you're ready to take a break from rides, hit the Carnival Midway for arcade games and shows by clowns, jugglers and trapeze artists.
Speaking of roller coasters, the only outdoor one on the Strip is The Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York featuring a 180-degree twist that loops by replicas of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. Also, try the coaster with virtual realty that combines thrill-seekers’ need for speed with advanced, immersive graphics, resulting in a 4D experience that’s out of this world. Afterwards, take a walk around the resort's cobblestone streets, where you can pick up a classic slice of pizza at New York Pizzeria.
3. Float down the lazy river at the MGM Grand
Sometimes on vacation, you just want to take it easy. At MGM Resorts, we understand that. And that’s why we’ve got two lazy rivers right on the Las Vegas strip! The MGM Grand Pool Complex features a lush oasis of swimming pools, waterfalls, palm trees, jacuzzis and the main attraction, a 1,000-foot lazy river open spring through fall. Join your kids as they grab inner tubes and float and splash the day away. Or watch as you sip a cool drink from the comfort of your well-appointed cabana; we'll leave that choice up to you.
Almost across the street the Mandalay Bay Beach has 11 acres of sand & pools with a number of adult activities, but also has the family-friendly wave pool and lazy river. Rent rafts and tubes, or get a cabana to watch the rest of the family float on by. With so much to do, no wonder it has won Las Vegas Review Journal’s Readers’ “Best Pool of Las Vegas” for multiple years!
