10 Things to Do in Las Vegas

Gone are the days of having a travel agent plan out a trip’s itinerary, so one is left up to their wits and the best recommendations the Internet can offer. Thankfully, you’re here with us at MGM Resorts! We've organized the list below in order to spark your interest and make your travel bug itch for Las Vegas.

1. Walk The Strip, See Free Sights

One of the most common things to do, and something all first-timers to Vegas must accomplish, is to put on your best walking shoes and hit The Strip. Whether it's the middle of winter or a scorching summer day, you will always find crowds of pedestrians taking in the sights throughout Las Vegas Boulevard. It’s no wonder, with the bevy of entertainment that awaits everyone. The people-watching alone is a draw for many Strip adventurers, but the free sights are what Las Vegas is often known for.

The Fountains at Bellagio Hotel & Casino are what you’ve seen in every cut-shot where Vegas is featured in a movie, and rightfully so. Gorgeous displays timed with various music genres, this long-standing staple of Vegas tourism was created by WET Design and continues to top visitor's lists.

A fun sequel to the Fountains is at The Mirage Hotel & Casino’s front lawn – The Volcano. With beats created by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, you feel the eruption as much in your heart as you feel the heat as fireballs flare up into the night sky. We bet a walk around your block was never as crazy as this jaunt, was it? Finally, once you’ve walked till your feet can’t take any more, you get your badge of honor. (Just please don’t feel the need to take off your shoes and keep going. No one approves.)

2. Find a Hidden Gem

Once you become that friend who gives a recommendation so unheard of and so successful, you can probably get your “Vegas insider” card. Finding a hidden gem in this city can vary as much as a personality can, and because the city was built on personalities, there are lots to choose from. Even when selecting where to stay, there are gems to be found. Try Hotel32 inside Monte Carlo Resort & Casino, a level of the hotel that’s extra posh with some added amenities and suites available. Or, get a Tower Suite at ARIA Resort & Casino so you can indulge in some added luxury and a private lobby.

When it’s time to imbibe, are you looking for a dark corner with firefly vibes, craft cocktails & unique beers? Check out Franklin Lounge at Delano. Something more gourmet steampunk for the night? The décor at Rx Boiler Room inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay will take you back to a time that may have never existed. Oh and, for a pro tip: Get a custom cocktail from their tableside mixology cart and get a unique beverage on top of a unique bar experience!

If you’re looking for a hidden gem that can glitter in the sun, set yourself on a mission to find your perfect daybed tucked within MGM Grand’s pool complex. Or find solace in more chic, metropolitan vibes at the Pool & Lounge at Vdara Hotel & Spa.

3. Get Wild in the Club

No trip to Las Vegas is complete without some nighttime, or in some cases daytime, revelries. There’s no better place to don the best outfit you packed, or that hot little number you picked up while shopping, and take the night by storm. From the top DJs in the world to the coolest bars in town, MGM Resorts has a number of clubs to keep your party side wild.

From happy hour on through a night of bottle service, there is a night full of high-class debauchery everywhere here in Las Vegas. Head over to LIGHT Nightclub in the Mandalay Bay where some of the biggest names in music come to play. DJ Mustard, J Cole, even Baauer (you know, that “Harlem Shake” song) are sure to make your feet move to a heavy beat.

Looking for something cooler and more contemporary? Check out the Alibi Ultra Lounge at ARIA near City Center. Here we channel classic elegance with modern luxury and have plenty of quiet, dark spots to have that private one-on-one you came to Vegas to find.

Or come up to the Mirage Hotel and find an evening to seduce your senses! The 1 OAK bar embodies the ultimate in nightlife innovation. It’s where art & fashion meet. And where the famous & infamous mingle. No matter where, or how, you start the night, you’ll want to end up at 1 OAK.

4. Eat – and Drink! – The Best Meal of Your Life

Vegas serves some of the best food in the world. This is a fact we all take great pride in. The culinary environment that has been created here is the delicious ripple effect of celebrity chef after celebrity chef coming to the Strip, blossoming their flagship restaurants & sharing culinary experiments, and their staff explodes geographically outwards for some truly incredible results. Legends like Joël Robuchon, Tom Colicchio, Michael Mina, Julian Serrano, Shawn McClain, Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse can make a great team of inspiration, and tasting menus abound when you’re not sure what to order.

5. See World-Class Entertainment

Las Vegas began its life as an entertainment city in the 1930s when the city grew exponentially when the laborers of the Hoover Dam needed a place to let loose. As you can expect, this area of the valley became even more popular than the dam itself and the entertainment offerings skyrocketed. The biggest name in the game has to be Cirque du Soleil, with 7 resident shows at any given time and even some touring shows stopping here. Comedy abounds at venues like Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club at MGM Grand, or Aces of Comedy at The Terry Fator Theater at The Mirage. With brand new concert venues like the T-Mobile Arena or Park Theater, there will be a constantly-evolving marquee of amazing talent to catch during your next visit.

6. Find a Breathtaking View

Though shimmering lights and ringing slot machines usually dominate the mental picture of what Vegas is, there is also endless natural beauty and breathtaking sights to be discovered. Catch a glimpse of all of it from places like Skyfall Lounge at Delano or The Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay. Or, go right into the heart of the Nevada wilderness by exploring Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area or a trip to the Grand Canyon.

7. Treat Your Mind, Body & Soul

All that walking, dancing, drinking & eating can take a toll on your body, and sometimes some self-love is just what the Vegas doctor ordered. Spa treatments can be as simple as a 50 minute massage or rejuvenating facial, but can be as elaborate as the “On The Rocks” signature body treatment at ESPA at Vdara Hotel & Spa. (Which also features a delicious smoothie bar!)

If constant wellness is more your speed, look no further than MGM Grand’s Stay Well rooms, which use wellness technologies from Delos, Cleveland Clinic and Deepak Chopra. A Vitamin C infused shower? That’s bound to wash off any crazy adventures you’ve had during your trip.

8. Order In with Room Service

Sometimes one of the best things to do on a visit to Sin City is to hole up in the lap of luxury and do, well…nothing. With beds so inviting, pillows so soft, and fluffy comforters just asking to be made into forts, it’s a miracle anyone actually gets out of their rooms to play tourist. This is why so many properties now offer bedding at home programs, because guests often sleep in a bed and can’t imagine going back to their plain-Jane mattress at home.

Another reason to stay in is because indulgence is only a page away when you pick up an in-room dining menu. ARIA Resort & Casino are pros at doing in-room dining right, and famous for their red velvet pancakes.

9. Win Some Cash

No matter what your game, you’re bound to find something on a Vegas casino floor to try your luck on. Whether you’re a novice gambler and just want to put $5 in a slot machine, or a pro looking to grab a seat during a poker tournament, all you need to do is grab your cash and practice your good-luck dance. There’s no other feeling quite like being around a craps table that’s heating up, drinks clinking and someone’s night/week/year is changed with one throw of the dice. Doesn’t matter the budget, but everyone needs to pay homage to Lady Luck at least once in their life to be a true Vegas enthusiast.

10. Shop Till You Drop

After those winnings are made, it’s time to deck yourself out at the shops of your dreams. Topping the Dream Shopping list is absolutely The Shops at Crystals, and not only for the big names like Tom Ford, Cartier and Dior. The mall itself is an architectural treat and hosts some delicious dining options as well. But of course, the list of designers is a pretty big draw for anyone with a fashionable eye. If your wallet isn’t as deeply prepared for a spree around Crystals, there is still much to be found at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. From Swarovski to Guinness, you can definitely lose track of the time wandering thru the shops lined up here.
